For almost ten years, Max endured a life of torment and suffering, chained to railings as a tourist attraction. WSPA was able to rescue Max and take him to a life of freedom at the WSPA-funded bear sanctuary in Romania. But his story isn't over. Max is dependent on the sanctuary to provide him with a safe home, medicines ? and 70 kilos of food every week. It costs around £24 a week to feed Max ? and there are 55 other hungry bears just like him.

WSPA is in Japan providing aid to thousands of animals affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami. You can help by donating to our Disaster Fund today. Your donation could help WSPA provide shelter, food, water and veterinary medicines in animals in desperate need.

WSPA collection box Our challenge to you

Could you place a WSPA collection box in your workplace or perhaps ask a local shop or café to take one? One collection box typically raises £60 to help animals in need ? and if every supporter placed just one box, that would raise an incredible £6million! Just ask permission of your workplace, local shop or café and then order a collection box by calling 0800 316 9772 or email fundraising.

If you can run (or walk!) 13 miles, then you could take part in London's Run to the Beat on 25 September 2011 and raise funds to protect suffering animals.

Run to the Beat is London's only musical half-marathon, where you can run to a soundtrack scientifically chosen to boost your determination and spur you on to complete the 13 mile track. For more information and to register your place, email fundraising or call 0800 316 9772.
