Powder days last week and early this week have been followed by a harsh string of closed days on both sides later this week. Ah well, Spring will return soon and the extended opening gives us all more time to get out and enjoy sunny snowy days. | Export Pond Skim We've had a fair bit of rain the last few days so unfortunately haven't been able to build a pond for the Export Pond Skim. Seems silly huh? Too much water to build a pond! But we want a really good solid base to keep it nice and safe so we're now holding this event next weekend Saturday 24 October. This will be the first ever pond skim event in the North Island so you can be forgiven for wondering what we're talking about. Competitors ski or ride down a slope straight into a purpose-built pond. The idea is to skim across the top to the other side but, yeah, some of you will get wet! Yeti will be there, as will the Export promo girls and we can't wait to see who else will show up! | | Peak to Powderkeg The Peak to Powderkeg is now happening this Saturday. Last weekend it was postponed for the first time in the event's history because there was snow on the road! If you're competing check out the snow report tomorrow morning for event details - even if the ski field is closed the event may run. Remember: this is an exciting and exhilarating event but entrants must agree that their first priority is the safety of themselves and others. | | Turoa open till 8 November! Snovember is back! We're extending the Turoa season to 8 November. Season, Spring, Life and 5 Season Pass holders: your passes and any unused discounts will still be valid for this extended season period. Day Pass purchasers: From 27 October All Mountain Day Passes will be $49 for Adults and $29 for Youth. Beginner Passes will be $33 for Adults and $20 for Youth. Facilities operating over the extended season 27 October-8 November will be the Movenpick Chair for access, the High Noon Express and a beginners' area, which may be the Alpine Meadow (snow permitting) or a 50m carpet lift at the top of the Movenpick Chair. | | Salomon Ski boots can often feel like instruments of torture, as if you?ve accidentally picked up some of Robocop?s size 9s. And it?s not just the ill-fitting ones ? even the right-sized boots can leave feet cramped with the type of agony dished out in medieval dungeons. Luckily there is an answer. Manufacturers have been providing custom liners for years but, although they might improve comfort slightly, they don?t do anything to adjust the hard outer shell. What you need is a tailored hard plastic outer as well as the liner ? such as that found on Salomon?s Custom Shell Falcon CS. Salomon has developed this technology after many years of testing and again cements itself as the industry leader in design and technology Salomon has won another award for its newly launched Custom Shell technology, adding the Slide Innovations for Hardware Award 2008 to its Ispo European Ski Award. In a simple 20 minute process, involving heating the shell and allowing it to cool around the foot, the boots will give you such a precise fit, there'll be no compromise on comfort. Boots are designed for your feet by your feet. | | | | | | | | |

 | | | A View From The Top After two epic powder days this week and with snow on its way it's hard to believe it's October! It's looking very much like we'll get another huge dump of snow over the next couple of days so be on the lookout for clear weather afterwards because it'll be awesome! | Snovember - The Remix Snovember is back! Thanks to the big snow-fall over the last week and more on its way we are extending the Turoa season to 8 November!! Season, Spring, Life and 5 Season Pass holders: your passes and any unused discounts will still be valid for this extended season period! | | Facilities from Monday From this Monday some facilities will be closing for the season to match Spring demand and our prices will drop too. At Turoa the Wintergarden Platters, Park Lane Chair, High Flyer Chair and Snowflake Cafe will be closed for the season. The Jumbo T-bar will operate as required. Everything else will remain open as normal - the Alpine Meadow, Movenpick, Giant, High Noon Express and Terrain Park. At Whakapapa the National, Rockgarden, Happy Valley and West Ridge Quad Chairs will be closed for the season. The Knoll Ridge and Valley T-bars will operate alternately. Everything else will remain open - the Centennial and Waterfall Express Chairs, Hut Flat tows and Waterfall and Far West T-bars. All Mountain Pass prices for the period 12-26 October will drop to the equivalent of the current Lower Mountain Pass price: $63 for Adults and $36 for Youth. Beginner passes to access the beginner tow ropes/carpet lift will be $33 for adults and $20 for Youth. And Season Pass holders will get a good deal too because their passes are now valid for an extra two weeks past the original projected closing date! | | Spring Passes With the two-week extension of the season the Spring Pass is looking more attractive than ever! Spring Passes are on sale now for just $175 for adults or $115 for youth (18 and under), which will get you unlimited skiing/riding through to 8 November. Get yours from customer services at Whakapapa or Turoa (no online sales, sorry). Season, 5 Season and Life Pass holders - your pass goes all the way to the end of the season. No need for you to get a Spring Pass! | | Peak to Powderkeg Hope you're ready for the Peak to Powderkeg this weekend! Teams or individuals will ski/board from the top of the High Noon Express to the snow line. Then it?s time to ditch the boots for running shoes as the race continues on foot to the 12.5km point on the Mountain Rd. The final stage is a mad dash cycle to the Powderkeg where the most challenging aspect of the race needs to be completed?the beer skull!! Remember: this is an exciting and exhilarating event but entrants must agree that their first priority is the safety of themselves and others. We're expecting snow to low levels tomorrow and may need to postpone this event if road conditions don't allow for a safe bike leg for any capable rider on a roadworthy bike. Make sure you check the Snow Report in the morning for details as the event may run even if the ski area is closed. The contingency day is the following Saturday 17 October. | | Export Pond Skim Oooooh, this is gonna be FUN!! Get a costume together, pray for sunshine and get up here next Saturday 17 October for the Export Pond Skim. This will be the first ever pond skim event in the North Island so you can be forgiven for wondering what we're talking about. Competitors ski or ride down a slope straight into a purpose-built pond. The idea is to skim across the top to the other side but, yeah, some of you will get wet!
