Please let us know or feel free to forward the email on. | After last Tuesdays earthquake here in Christchurch we have been inundated with anxious calls and e-mails expressing concern for our safety, and offering support and assistance. We are deeply moved by the support we have received, and we thank you for your kind thoughts.? Like so many people here in Christchurch, the lives of the Wild Earth team and our business has been profoundly affected from events during this last week. Between us we have lost friends, homes, and have been confronted with many challenges. But we are very grateful that all of our colleagues and their families are safe and well. Our buildings may be broken but our spirit remains strong. Yesterday we gathered at our office and are now well on our way to getting things back in operation. We have a great team, and a great community here in Christchurch, and we are resolved to come out of this stronger than before.? Wild Earth Travel is now once again fully functional, with phone numbers and email working we are now up and running. The greatest support that you can offer us in the coming days, weeks and months is your custom. We are a proudly New Zealand owned and based company and with your support we believe that we can only go from strength to strength. Thank you all for supporting us in so many different ways. Sincerely, Aaron Russ & Paul Edensor New Wild Earth Small Ship Cruising brochure! Over the last months we have been busy compiling what we believe is one of the greatest collections of small ship voyages and expeditions that have ever been featured together in one brochure. Luckily the brochures were delivered just a few days before the quake so are all safe at our office! Nearly everywhere that there is enough water (and our small ships don’t need much) we have a small ship expedition or voyage. These exciting itineraries are operated by several different companies that we know well, have a close working relationship with and which we believe will give you once in a lifetime experiences. Sometimes one of our Wild Earth leaders will accompany a departure, if you are interested in travelling on one of these escorted departures then please enquire for details, but at all times you will be in very capable hands. We have done this to give you the widest possible range of choices in dates and destinations! Click here to view our brochure online Click here to request a copy of our Brochure When reading through the brochure if you see an itinerary that you like but the dates don’t suit, drop us an email, we have many more departures available than we can possibly feature. < top > New Wild Earth Website Yes we have been busy at Wild Earth! In addition to our new brochure we also have a new website, if you haven’t visited in a while take a moment to check it out. Use the search function to find your next dream holiday or just explore the world of small ship options, I am sure you will be surprised by what you find! < top > Wild Earth Returns to Ethiopia In September and October last year our good friend Sue Verrall lead our inaugural Ethiopia Insights Journey, over an amazing 24 days the group explored Ethiopia from North to South and top to bottom. Meeting with villagers and learning about their unique way of life in what is at times a hostile environment. They also explored the National Parks including several days in the Simian Mountains watching and photographing the Simian Baboons and other endemic creatures. Everybody who joined Sue had a great time and rated it the trip of a lifetime, and we are doing it again this year. After last year we have decided to add a visit to the source of the Blue Nile and we are sure that the program will be better than ever as Sue shares a part of the world that she knows intimately. This years small group Ethiopia Insights Journey departs Addis Abba, Ethiopia on 10th September to 3rd October 2011. We are offering an early booking discount of US$500 pp to all our Wild Earth News readers. Enquire for further details Introducing Sue Verrall our Ethiopia guide Sue has spent a large portion of her life living and working in East Africa. Initially working with the Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa Sue then branched out into landscaping, environmental projects, development work and of course safaris all of which developed her knowledge and fostered her passion for the people and their land. The next project was building herself a home high on the slopes of Mt Meru near Arusha in Tanzania – from her Veranda she looked out towards Mt Kilimanjaro and across the Maasai Steppes to brilliant African sunsets. Sue has now returned “home” to North Canterbury, New Zealand where she lives surrounded by farmland. But the friendships, joy, heartaches, laughter and above all the incredible spirit of Africa keeps calling her back to Africa and driving her passion for introducing others to this amazing land, wildlife and people. < top > Antarcitca Nobody knows Antarctica like Wild Earth Travel do. Antarctic Expedition Report Last summer our dear friend and colleague, Dr Don Merton led a group of intrepid travellers on an expedition voyage to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia & Antarctic Peninsula. Don along with his fellow travellers, Neville Porter and Fred McElrea have compiled an excellent and beautiful account of the voyage. Click here to view an extract of their account. Sadly Don is currently unwell but our thoughts and best wishes are with Don and his wife Margaret during what must be a very difficult time. < top > Galapagos Islands The enchanted islands of the Galapagos sit in splendid isolation on the equator offshore from Ecuador, an evolutionary cauldron where every island has its unique inhabitants. Stepping ashore you are greeted by lounging Marine Iguana’s, nature trails reveal another world, a land of seabirds and Giant Tortoise, watch Albatross courting and Blue-footed Boobies dancing while Magnificent Frigate birds float overhead. The appropriately named Darwin’s Finches with their array of adaptations provided Charles Darwin with inspiration for his “Origin of Species” and this is truly a magical adventure through evolution and natural history! Last year perennial traveller, Tommy Mueller who we have had the pleasure of travelling with to many a remote destination joined a Wild Earth voyage to the Galapagos Islands and wrote all about it for Australia's ‘50something’ Magazine. Wild Earth works closely with Lindblad National Geographic Expeditions to offer weekly departures through the enchanted archipelago aboard their superbly equipped vessels. Explore the Galapagos above and below the waves with their naturalists and guides with landings and snorkel excursions every day that you are in the Galapagos Islands. Or for those looking for a longer and more in-depth Galapagos Adventure we have the 14 and 18 day trips aboard the MV Tip Top IV, on these expeditions you travel with just 15 other travellers, the longer programs allow you to see and visit more of the archipelago including a number of the outer islands other voyages don’t get chance to visit.
